What is the origin and moral of Xie Nian?

Xie Nian originated from a ritual activity in Zhejiang. Xie Nian, also known as the sending year, is mostly on the evening of December 27th of the lunar calendar. It is a kind of sacrificial activity among the people in China, asking God to bless them. The purpose is to pray for God to bless the people in the new year with good weather, peace and longevity.

There are also many legends about sending new year's goods. For example, Nian is an evil monster, and then it comes out to make trouble. People treat it with appeasement and let it eat and go.
