Shu Fangzhai was founded in the 18th year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1420), located on the east side of China Palace in the Palace Museum, and was formerly the head of the Fifth Hospital of Ganxi. After Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty ascended the throne, he changed the West Second Palace into the Chinese Palace, so he changed his face to Shufangzhai, and built a stage in the Chinese Palace as a place for banquets and performances.

Shufangzhai is an I-shaped temple, with two main halls before and after, which are connected by one main hall. Among them, the front hall, the south room and the east-west annex hall form an independent small courtyard, which is connected by a veranda. The front hall is five rooms wide and three rooms deep, with yellow glazed tiles resting on the top of the mountain, air doors installed on the front eaves, and the rest are sill windows.

The indoor lighting room and the secondary room are separated by floor-to-ceiling flower covers, made of nanmu, which is very fine. The East Second Room, named "Jingqixuan", was appointed in the seventh year of Qianlong (AD 1742) and was the place where Li Hong studied when he was young. In front of the temple, there are three halls, East Hall and West Hall. The East Hall is a bright room, and the East Garden is an imperial garden.
