What is the difference between Mencius' theory of "knowing words and nourishing qi" and Cao Pi's theory of "writing takes qi as the body"?

Cao Pi, Liu Xie and Zhong Rong's theory of qi developed from Mencius' theory of nourishing qi, but its content does not fully conform to the original meaning of the theory of nourishing qi. Mencius' qi refers to the spiritual temperament of people with Confucian moral concepts as the core, while Cao Pi and others emphasize the spiritual temperament of writers. As for whether this temperament is centered on Confucian moral concepts or other concepts, they did not discuss it. Therefore, Cao Pi's theory of qi mainly inherits Mencius' theory of nourishing qi in form, but it has little connection in essence. It was not until Han Yu in the Tang Dynasty that he inherited and developed Mencius' original theory of nourishing qi and took Confucian moral concepts as the basis of studying literature.

Mencius said, "I am good at cultivating my noble spirit", which means that my spirit is high and refreshing, which is consistent with Song Zhengqi in Wen Tianxiang. Su Zhe's Book of Han Taiwei in Shangshumi is probably the same as that of Cao Pi. But in my opinion, Mencius said that "qi" can come from one's words and deeds and self-cultivation, but Cao Pi paid more attention to the fact that there should be a kind of "qi" in poetry and fu, in other words, there is a spirit running through it, which can only be said to be the inheritance of the former.
