The gate of wisdom

Wisdom Gate is the landmark building of the college, located on the central axis of the college, echoing the gate at a distance, and the beautiful avenue and the avenue around the lake meet here. On the left of the wisdom gate is a dense green garden, and on the right is the aura of blue waves. It is the representative of the college's cultural attractions, inherits the broad mind of the gate and inspires students to study hard.

The wisdom door designed by experts in Tsinghua University University of Arts and Crafts contains rich scientific and cultural connotations. The gate of wisdom is the main gate to the world, which is connected with the sky, thick soil and blue waves. The "Heaven and Round Place", "World", "Bodhi Companion Tree" and "Hanging Fragrances to Fill the Pavilion" in the gate are all interpretations of wisdom by China traditional culture. Taking the fragrant ball, the most exquisite and stable structure in the history of ancient technology in China, as the prototype, the heart of wisdom is cast in the door, which symbolizes the eternal pursuit of truth and wisdom.

1, "The sky is round"

The top of the wisdom door is hollow and round, symbolizing the round sky; There is a square pool at the bottom, a symbolic square. This is the world view expressed by China's ancient "heaven" and "earth".

In ancient times, in order to survive, people fought against nature and often looked up to observe the changes in the sky. According to the running law of the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, they simply realized that the sky is a dome. According to the law that the sun rises and sets around the horizon, it is recognized that the earth is square; The sky is above, the earth is below, and the sky is round, covering the earth like a hat, centering on the position of the North Pole and the Big Dipper; The earth is square, just like a chessboard, with Luoyang as the center (the center where the "king" was in Dayu), and the sun, moon and stars keep moving with the sky. "Zhou Kuai Su 'an Classic" said: "Local territory, the circle belongs to the sky, and the sky is round." He also said, "The sky is like a cover, and the land law is repeated. The sky is 80 thousand miles from the ground. " This great understanding highly summarizes the living forms of all things in the world, and it is the most precious and simple world outlook left by the ancestors of the Chinese nation, which has become the basis for future generations to understand and study nature.

2. Smart ball

The so-called wisdom ball is based on the most exquisite and stable structure fragrant ball in the history of China ancient arts and crafts, and endowed with modern cultural connotation. The wisdom ball uses two hollow spheres to simulate the structure of the fragrant ball. The inner ball is fixed and the outer ball can rotate. Because of the structural reasons, we can only use the simulation method to drive the outer ball to rotate with the motor, giving it modern cultural connotation. Although the metaphor of raft is ever-changing, the eternal pursuit of truth and wisdom remains unchanged.

China ancient folk had the habit of burning incense, deodorizing, smoking and killing insects since the Western Zhou Dynasty. They put herbs in a special box and burn them, but sometimes they cause fires. At the beginning of the Han Dynasty, about the beginning of the 2nd century BC, Ding Huan, a skillful craftsman in Chang 'an Palace, invented an instrument called "Beizhong Luxiang", which consisted of several metal rings, and the incense burner was placed in the center of the innermost machine ring. In this way, "the machine ring is transported everywhere, and the furnace body is always flat and can be placed in bedding, hence the name." A charming scene was described in "Fu on Beauty" written in BC 140: "Golden incense curled up and the curtains hung low" (the metal ring contained burning incense). Ding Huan invented the quilt incense burner, which not only avoided the fire, but also emphasized hygiene. After the herbs are put into the burner, the bedding gives off a fragrance.

This incense burner is exquisitely made. It is inlaid with beautiful flower patterns and becomes a female pet. Some are made into "fire cages" for roasting hands, and some are worn on the body with chains. It can be used not only at night, but also on underwear or belt during the day to make the whole body fragrant. In the Song Dynasty, there were incense players in the Royal Musical Instrument Team. According to documents, in the thirteenth year of Xichun, Emperor Tai Shang celebrated his eightieth birthday. Filial piety went to Deshou Palace to offer condolences, and officials of civil and military affairs accompanied him in royal robes. In addition to driving, having fun and playing music according to law, there are also ritual sermons. There were two people holding incense balls for the ceremony, and Xiangyun escaped from the incense balls. In the Song Dynasty, women traveled by car, and some ladies-in-waiting held incense balls, and the ladies-in-waiting held small incense balls in their sleeves, so the cigarettes were like clouds and the dust was fragrant when the car passed by.

After the Tang Dynasty, this kind of incense burner was called "fragrant ball" and "rolling lamp"; Modern engineering is called "constant flat support" and "balance ring"; It is also called "gyroscope" and "gyro" in physics.

In ancient China, people followed the balance principle of fragrant balls and used them in the "light ball" of the festival dragon dance. Records of the west lake in Hangzhou (A.D. 1734) mentioned that a "chain shaft" was installed with paper lanterns in it. No matter how you kick and roll it in the street, the lights in it will not go out, so it is called a rolling lamp. Later, it developed into a carriage, which Dr. Needham talked about in his masterpiece "History of Science and Technology in China". Because the car is equipped with this constant platform, even if you walk on the rugged road, the dignitaries lying inside will not feel bumpy.

The structure of balance ring and balance frame in perfume ball also provides reference for the construction of gyroscope. In the 8th century, China navigators used this technology to assemble compasses, which made navigation possible. Today, this technology is widely used in aviation, aerospace, navigation and other aspects.

3. Bodhi companion tree

The surface pattern of the wisdom ball is made of the pattern of the ancient bodhi tree, which means the tree of wisdom.

According to legend, more than 2,500 years ago, about 565 BC, Sakyamuni (Siddhartha) was born in Lumbini Garden, Kapilovich, India, which is now in Nepal. He likes thinking. Seeing the old man on an outing made him lament the ruthlessness of time and the shortness of life. Seeing the patient aroused his feeling that people, regardless of their status or gender, would suffer from the disease. Seeing the dead aroused his sadness about the impermanence of life. So, he came to visit monks in the jungle near the Nilian Chan River, seeking Taoism and learning Taoism. After six years, he lived as an ascetic monk who ate only one millet and one sesame every day.

Six years are about to pass, and Siddhartha realizes that if the way to liberation is achieved through asceticism, then people will mistakenly think that only hunger is the reason to achieve Tao. In this case, people will only work hard in form, regardless of inner peace, and will never get the result of liberation. So Siddhartha decided to take a normal diet and then become a monk. He accepted the milk of a cowherd girl, recovered his strength, walked under a lush Biboro tree, and was full of reincarnation to think about ways to get rid of life troubles. That night, he overcame the last trouble, the evil influence, and became a Buddha through his understanding of the universe and life. The place where Sakyamuni became a Buddha has been called Bodhi Field or bodhgaya since ancient times. The Biboro tree there was named Bodhi Tree because the Buddha sat under the tree to gain enlightenment. From then on, all Bieber trees were called Bodhi trees. "Bodhi" means "consciousness", which means "wisdom".

In the unity of opposites of Yin and Yang, it presents a vivid picture of the orderly and harmonious development of everything born of the harmony of Yin and Yang. The concept of harmony between Yin and Yang is the root, soul and gene of Chinese culture. It reflects the psychological characteristics of Chinese people's emotions, ups and downs of thinking habits, the cognitive style of combining rigidity with softness, the impartial attitude towards life, the changing and cyclical value orientation and code of conduct, and is deeply rooted in China's traditional philosophy, politics, economy, literature, art, medicine and even daily life style and customs.
