The difference between winter and summer is only one aspect of the difference between the four seasons of the year. Not every part of the country has four distinct seasons, and the only areas with four distinct seasons throughout the year are the Huaihe River Basin and the Yangtze River Basin.

Mohe area in Heilongjiang Province, the northernmost part of China, has no summer all year round, and it is cold here all year round. Hainan Island is located at the southernmost tip of China.
