When is the best time to harvest taro?

Taro is usually harvested from August to 10.

Taro is usually harvested in autumn. Generally, it is cultivated in spring1~ February (beginning of spring) and harvested in late summer or autumn (August ~ 10). Taro is a perennial tuber plant, which is usually planted as an annual crop. Because taro is different from mother taro and son taro, mother taro is the "seed" of taro planted in spring, and son taro will grow and mature around 10.

Among them, most early-maturing varieties can be harvested in August, and late-maturing varieties can not be harvested until 10 in September. It takes about 180~260 days from planting to maturity. When the taro is cooked, it should be dug out in time, especially in the northern region, where the temperature drops in autumn. It's warmer in the south, so it can be dug in February next year.

1, red taro

Also known as red-bud taro, the plant height is 90~ 100 cm, the leaves are wide oval and lavender, the mother taro is large and nearly round, and each plant has 7~ 10 taro seeds. Taro seeds are full, the skin is thick and brown, the meat is white and the buds are bright red. It contains a lot of starch and its quality is very good. Fresh taro can be eaten or dried, and it can be cooked in seven minutes. The growth period is 2 10 ~ 240 days, the planting period is 2 ~ 3 months, and the harvest is ~ 1700 kg/mu in September.

2, white taro

Also known as white bud taro, the bud is white, the petiole is green, the veins are light green, the petiole is yellowish green, the near leaves are slightly purple halo, the mother taro is slightly curved, the son taro is oval, and the terminal bud is yellow and white. The yield per plant is 500 ~ 750g, and the bulb has high water content, good meat quality, early maturity and storability. The yield per mu is 1.250 kg, and the high yield can reach more than 1.500 kg.
