The significance of solar terms
The twenty-four solar terms were formulated by ancient people according to the change of the position of the earth on the ecliptic. In fact, they are twenty-four seasons, two each month. We often regard solar terms as a word now, but in ancient times, China people used them separately, and every month had a solar term and a breath.
The ancients said that the festival is located at the beginning of the month, and the qi is located in the middle of the month. Together, it is what we call solar terms. For example, in October of the lunar calendar, beginning of winter is a festival, and light snow is gas. In ancient China, where there was no weather forecast, people used solar terms to determine the exact time when cold came and summer went, and the regularity of natural phenomena such as rainfall and snowfall.
