Characteristics of summer solstice
Like the winter solstice, the summer solstice is also a solar term reflecting the changes of the four seasons. Astronomy stipulates that the summer solstice is the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere. After the summer solstice, although the direct sunlight point began to move southward from the Tropic of Cancer, the daylight in the northern hemisphere began to shorten gradually. For the Tropic of Cancer and its northern area, the height of the noon sun also began to decrease day by day. However, because the heat radiated by the sun to the ground is still more than that radiated from the ground to the air, the temperature will continue to rise in the future. So the summer solstice won't be too hot.
Although the sunshine time is the longest in summer, it is not the hottest time of the year. For the Yellow River and most parts of northern China, the highest monthly average temperature is in July, followed by August and then June.
After the summer, the ground is heated strongly and the air convection is strong, and thunderstorms often form in the afternoon to evening. This hot thunderstorm came suddenly and went quickly, and the rainfall range was small. People call it "dividing fields in summer and rain".
