The customs and habits of Youxi in Sanming during the New Year.

1, paste Spring Festival couplets

Post Spring Festival couplets, blessings, window grilles, door gods, New Year pictures, etc. Urge the arrival of the new year.

Step 2: keep your age

On New Year's Eve, on the morning of the thirtieth day of the twelfth lunar month (the 29th day of the twelfth lunar month), parents or brothers at home get up early and go to the ancestral temple with prepared sacrifices. After the ancestor worship, put the sacrifice on the stove at home, light the incense that can't be extinguished all night, and stick a new statue of the stove on the wall opposite the stove mouth.

3. New Year's Eve dinner

New Year's Eve is the most important meal in China New Year. Youxi people's favorite noodles, sugar cakes, vegetable heads and so on are inevitable in the New Year's Eve. After the New Year's Eve, elders give red envelopes to their underage children (or grandchildren), which is called "lucky money". So the whole family sat down, drank tea and ate fruit, watched the Spring Festival Gala and waited for the New Year bell. This is "shou sui".

4. Don't visit

Youxi people don't pay New Year's greetings on the first day of the first month. When I was in the first grade, I usually went to the temple to burn incense and pray for peace at home.

5. Go back to your mother's house

The custom of Youxi now is to go back to her mother's house on the second day of the Lunar New Year. This is the day when her married daughter took her husband and children back to her parents' home to visit her parents-in-law. However, she can't go back empty-handed. She wants to bring some door-to-door gifts, not singular ones.
