Why do China have 24 solar terms? What are they?
Twenty-four solar terms refer to twenty-four seasons and climates. Twenty-four solar terms is a supplementary calendar made by China to guide farming in ancient times, and it is the crystallization of the long-term experience and wisdom of the Han working people in ancient China. It was formed in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. They are: winter solstice, slight cold, severe cold, beginning of spring, rain, sting, vernal equinox, Qingming, Grain Rain, long summer, xiaoman, awn seed, summer solstice, slight summer heat, great summer heat, beginning of autumn, early summer heat, white dew, autumn equinox, cold dew, early frost, beginning of winter, light snow and heavy snow.
On May 20th, 2006, "Twenty-four solar terms" as a folk custom project was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list. April 20 14, the Ministry of Culture of China officially began to declare the "24 solar terms" to UNESCO's "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity".
