The moral of Xiao Man's name
Xiaoman, the eighth of the 24 solar terms, is the second solar term in summer. Every year from May 20th to 22nd, when the sun reaches 60 degrees, it is in full bloom. After the small full day, the weather will gradually turn from warm to hot, and the precipitation will gradually increase. There is a saying in a folk proverb that a small man is full of rivers every day. As for this kind, it is full, and summer crops such as wheat are full but immature, so it is called Xiaoman.
Xiaoman symbolizes a just right state. When the solar term is full, the grains of summer crops such as wheat begin to fill, but they are only small and not completely full, which symbolizes that everything is just right. When the moon is full, it will lose money, and when the water is full, it will overflow. Too much is not good. After everything reaches the extreme, it will inevitably go downhill. When I was young, I would be full and everything would be just right.
Phenological phenomena in Xiao Man
Xiaoman waited three times: "Wait for the bitter vegetable show, wait for the grass to wither, and wait for the wheat autumn." In other words, after the full solar terms, bitter vegetables have flourished; After that, some soft grass with shady branches began to die in the strong sunlight; In the last period of Xiaoman, wheat began to mature. The third period was originally written about the summer solstice, and later some works were changed to the winter solstice of wheat.
Although it is still summer, it is a mature "autumn" for wheat. Summer is the season when winter wheat ripens in the north, and autumn is the season when grain ripens, so the ancients extended the term early summer to wheat autumn (the season when wheat ripens).
