Xi 'an Bell Tower was built in the 17th year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1384), with a history of more than 600 years. The original site was Guangji Street, and it was moved to the present site in the tenth year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (AD 1582). In the past, there was a bell hanging in the building, which was used to alarm and tell the time, hence the name "Bell Tower".

The bell tower is a brick-wood structure with three eaves and four corners, and there are stairs inside, which can reach the top. The eaves are covered with dark green glazed tiles, and the building is painted with gold, carved with beams and painted with gold. With the bell tower as the center, four streets extending in all directions are connected with the four gates of the Ming city wall respectively. There is a giant clock on the bell tower, which was cast in the years of Tang Jingyun. It is called "Jingyunzhong" and originally belonged to Chang 'an City. It was used by Jinglongguan (now Xi 'an West Street) and moved to the bell tower in the early Ming Dynasty. Drumming was used as a time-telling tool in ancient times. Tang Du Fu's poem "Sunset in the Courtyard, Photo by Guo Mao in Huaixi" says: "There is a sunset scene on the balcony, so there is no need to report a new sunny day with bells and drums." It has also been used as an instrument. In the Qing Dynasty, Zheng Xie's poem "Don't" said: "Yunshan has fanaticism, and the bells and drums are ruthless than Qiu."
