The meaning of Grain Rain

The solar term in Grain Rain refers to the end of the cold wave, the rapid temperature rise and the beginning of grain growth.

Grain Rain means "Rain gives birth to hundreds of valleys", and the precipitation has increased obviously at this time. The seedlings in the field are newly planted, and the crops in Xinzhuang need rain most, so the so-called "spring rain is as expensive as oil". With sufficient and timely rainfall, cereal crops can thrive. There is a folk saying that "Grain Rain will see peony in the garden in three days" and "Peony will take the lead in peony pedicure", and there is also a proverb that "the Chinese rose will bloom only except the pedicel, and the flowers will not lag" to describe the spring scenery of the world.

Grain Rain is the last solar term in spring. At this time, just after planting seedlings and planting new crops in the field, rain is most needed, so there is a saying that "spring rain is as expensive as oil". At this time, there is abundant rain in most parts of southern China, and the annual rainfall in late April is about 30 to 50 mm. The first rainstorm usually occurs in this period, which is beneficial to rice planting and the growth of corn and cotton at seedling stage.

The origin of Grain Rain

It is said that Cangjie was rewarded with a golden man by the emperor when he created characters. He felt guilty and returned it. One day when I was sleeping, I heard someone calling him, "You don't want any gold people that the Jade Emperor gave you, so what do you want?" Cang Xie shouted in his sleep: "The people are hard. If only all the people in the world had food."

The next day, when Cang Xie was about to go out, he was caught in an unusually heavy rain. It rained for nearly half an hour in Grain Rain, covering the whole village. Cang Xie was both happy and surprised. He remembered the scene in his dream and knew that it was a reward from the Jade Emperor, so he quickly sent someone to tell the Yellow Emperor.

Due to Cang Xie's contribution, the Yellow Emperor designated the date of planting millet as Grain Rain Festival, and ordered people all over the world to sing and dance in this year to thank God. In some places, this day is even regarded as a festival to worship Cang Xie.
