Why is the high-speed cylinder fast?

The piston speed of a standard cylinder is generally in the range of 50~500mm/s, however, there are still many areas that need to be improved in practical application, such as high-speed handling devices, door opening and closing actions of numerical control equipment, and high-speed Z-axis of robots. , as shown in the figure below. These applications often put forward high requirements for cylinder speed.

For example, the high-speed Z-axis requires the cylinder speed to reach 3m/s, and for the high-speed handling equipment with low speed requirements, the cylinder speed is also required to reach1000 mm/s. If the speed of the standard cylinder is higher than 500mm/s, it will aggravate the friction heat of the cylinder sealing ring, accelerate the wear of the sealing ring, cause air leakage, shorten the service life of the cylinder, increase the impact force at the end of the stroke, and affect the mechanical life.

In order to work at a higher speed, it is necessary to lengthen the length of the cylinder, improve the machining accuracy of the cylinder, improve the material of the sealing ring to reduce friction and improve the cushioning performance. SMC has developed a special series of high-speed cylinder RHC, which adopts a special structure with long buffer stroke and large intake aperture, which can ensure that the piston can reach the maximum moving speed of 3m/s and decelerate smoothly.
