What is the working principle of the throttle position sensor?

The principle of throttle position sensor is actually a sliding rheostat. When the accelerator is depressed, the idle signal line is disconnected and the sliding rheostat rotates accordingly. The computer detects the voltage value, compares and analyzes the obtained data through the computer, and controls the basic fuel injection quantity.

The function of the throttle position sensor resistor is to convert the position or opening of the throttle into a voltage signal, which is transmitted to the electronic control unit as the basis for the electronic control unit to judge the engine working condition, so as to realize the fuel injection control under different throttle opening. There are three kinds of throttle position sensors: linear, switch and integrated (switch and linear variable resistor). The throttle position sensor is installed on the throttle body and connected with the throttle. Inside the resistor of the throttle position sensor is a sliding potentiometer. The sliding contact of the potentiometer is driven by the throttle shaft. Different throttle opening and potentiometer resistance value can convert throttle opening into resistance or voltage signal and send it to microcomputer. Through the microcomputer throttle position sensor, we can obtain the analog signal representing the continuous change of all throttle opening from fully closed to fully open and the change rate of throttle opening, so that we can judge the working condition of the engine more accurately and improve the control accuracy and effect. In order to accurately detect the signal of idle state (full throttle), the integrated throttle position sensor has an idle contact. When the throttle valve is completely closed, the idle output contact is turned on and the sensor outputs an idle signal. At this time, ECU will instruct the fuel injector to increase the fuel injection quantity to enrich the mixture.
