Is Ghost Festival a traditional festival in China?
The fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month is an important traditional festival in China. It is probably because people will burn paper money to worship their ancestors from the first ten days of July to the fifteenth day of this month to create such an atmosphere of dialogue between people and souls, so some people say Ghost Festival.
Mid-Autumn Festival, New Year's Eve, Tomb-Sweeping Day and Double Ninth Festival are also called the four traditional ancestral festivals in China. In Buddhism, Mid-Autumn Festival is also called "Orchid Festival".
Shangyuan Festival, Zhongyuan Festival and Xiayuan Festival are collectively called "Sanyuan Festival". The fifteenth day of the first lunar month, called Shangyuan Festival, has been celebrated since ancient times. July 15 is called Mid-Autumn Festival, which is a festival dedicated to ancestors. October 15th, known as the Next Yuan Festival, is a cold food in memory of the sages.
According to historical documents, autumn tasting ancestor worship activities existed in the pre-Qin period. At first, it was a matter of emperors and generals, and later it affected the people from top to bottom. At first, the date of "Autumn Taste" was uncertain. Later, it gradually fixed around July 15, usually the first full moon after beginning of autumn, and the breath of new autumn was in full swing.
Folklore experts believe that the Mid-Autumn Festival is an intangible cultural heritage, a culture and a tradition of remembering ancestors in ancient and modern times. This tradition embodies the ancient people's thought of "being cautious to the end", and everyone has parents. Based on this idea, feelings and responsibilities for ancestors, the Mid-Autumn Festival is bound to continue and be passed down.
