Eating black rice on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month is a folk custom in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. One of the legends is that Mulian, a disciple of Sakyamuni, tried to dye rice with black rice leaves and cook it into black rice for his mother in hell to eat. Hungry ghosts dare not eat it. Mother is finally full, and Jiangnan people eat black rice every year to commemorate Mulian's dutiful son. Can be used as medicine, up-regulate spleen and stomach vitality, and lower the Shaoyin kidney meridian. Black rice is a kind of purple-black glutinous rice, which is made by collecting the leaves of wild plant Vaccinium bracteatum, soaking the glutinous rice in cooked soup for a long time, and then taking it out and steaming it in a wooden steamer. Its taste is fragrant and delicious, which greatly increases people's appetite.
