The first day of the lunar new year

Every household chooses auspicious times to open doors, set off firecrackers, burn incense and light candles, worship ancestors, wear new clothes and exchange auspicious words. In the building where the family lives together, please ask the most blessed person to open the door first and say "open the door"; Walking out of the gate, he said that "stepping on all sides will benefit all parties" and set off long firecrackers. Then, everyone opened the kitchen door, set off firecrackers and talked well. Breakfast is usually vegetarian dishes, reunion soup balls, red dates, peanuts and glutinous rice. People don't clean, wash clothes or carry water. Children set off firecrackers for fun, and adults went home to congratulate each other. In order to entertain relatives and friends who come to visit the New Year, most families will take out candy, peanuts, sugar cane, kumquat, sweet jujube, plum and raisins. Hakka people have meatballs, chicken, lean meat, tea eggs and yellow wine, which are called "eating soup" and are eager to persuade wine.

Going back to my parents' home to visit relatives, the Yue family warmly entertained me. Longyan and Zhangping began to have poached eggs and dried powder strips as snacks before the banquet. If it is a wedding, it will be even more grand.

There are tea-picking lanterns and lion dance performances in both urban and rural areas of Longyan. Lion dance, boat lantern, dragon lantern, missionary society, gongs and drums and folk artists' "Playing the New Year Drum" are very popular among Hakkas. On this day, Hakkas will cook New Year's rice in the new year and eat the "New Year's rice" for ancestor worship. This day is also called "Send the Poor Day", which is to treat the garbage at home as a "poor ghost" and clean it out. Family members don't want to go out and don't welcome guests.

Fifth day

Longyan and Zhangping call it "the fifth day", and Hakka calls it "opening a primary school". Began to "pray for God", prayed for peace and prosperity all year round, burned the curtain paper hanging at the gate, and went to Shanghang City Hall from the fifth day to the tenth day. On a certain day, the whole family got together for a banquet, and everyone ate a plate of red eggs and encouraged each other with auspicious words. Just one day, you can pick urine and do some small farm work. In some places, traditional activities to greet the gods began. There is a folk proverb in Liancheng that "the ancestor, Erlang God, the third day (referring to the third day and the fourth night), the fifth day and the sixth day have wine but no meat (referring to later)". In fact, people often play until the middle of the first month. As the Hakka saying goes, "Eat or not, chat (play) until the twentieth day of the first month".
