What are the summer customs?
"seventy-two months to be solved" said, "in mid-July, this place stopped and the summer heat came."
Today is the day to bid farewell to summer.
The high temperature in the south is changing, and the autumn in many places in the north is getting stronger.
China has a vast territory and different customs.
Let Bian Xiao talk about the customs this summer.
Worship ancestors and welcome autumn.
The folk customs around the summer solar terms are mostly related to ancestor worship and welcoming autumn. Around the summer vacation, there will be folk activities to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, commonly known as "July 30" or "Mid-Autumn Festival". Today, it has become the main activity time for ancestor worship.
In addition, after summer, autumn is getting stronger, which is a good time for people to go swimming in the suburbs to meet autumn scenery. After the heat, even the clouds in the sky seem to be evacuated and free, unlike the thick clouds in the heat. There has always been a saying among the people that "seeing a clever cloud in July and August" means "going out to welcome autumn".
Put on a river lantern.
River lanterns, also known as "lotus lanterns", usually put lights or candles on the base, and put them into rivers, lakes and seas during the Mid-Autumn Festival to let them float. River lanterns made of paper, cloth, silk, plastic and metal were floated to Jinmen and Mazu in southern Fujian. On the wall of lanterns are written greetings from family reunion, cross-strait three links, early reunification and rejuvenation of China. The lanterns are also equipped with condolence letters and gifts, which gives the river lanterns a new flavor of the times.
Fishing festival
After summer, it is a period of good harvest for fishing. In this solar term, coastal areas often hold various forms of worship and blessing activities to send fishermen out to sea and look forward to a good harvest. In order to save fishery resources and promote the development of local tourism in China's coastal areas, this is a festival celebration focusing on cultural exchanges and singing operas.
Eat duck
Old duck tastes sweet and cool, so there is a tradition of eating duck in summer, and there are many ways to do it, such as boiled duck, lemon duck, ginger duck, roast duck, lotus leaf duck and walnut duck. Beijing still retains this tradition. Usually in summer, Beijingers will go to the store to buy lily ducks for the summer.
Fried tea
This custom has been popular since the Tang Dynasty. During the summer vacation, Guangdong and Guangxi have the habit of frying herbal tea. They go to the drugstore to make prescriptions first, and then cook tea at home, which means that eating something "bitter" in autumn is good for clearing away heat and fire, resolving food stagnation and removing lung heat.
And in summer, it is advisable to eat foods that clear away heat and soothe the nerves, such as tremella, lily, lotus seeds, honey, kelp, celery, spinach, glutinous rice, sesame and so on. In addition, fruit juice drinks, soybean milk and milk are also good drinks. You should also eat less hot food such as spicy fried food.
