On the Basic Development of China's Painting and Calligraphy
The development of China's calligraphy art can be roughly divided into two stages.
(1) Before Wei and Jin Dynasties, it was basically a spontaneous stage. People pay attention to the practical function of calligraphy and seldom pursue its aesthetic function.
(2) Wei and Jin Dynasties began to enter the conscious stage. At this time, regular script, cursive script and running script derived from official script have matured through the efforts of many calligraphers. Since then, calligraphy has both aesthetic and practical functions, and consciously creating the beauty of calligraphy has become an art form that embodies the cultural characteristics of the Chinese nation.
