What do values mean? In simple terms

In layman's terms, values are your assessment of the importance of everything in the world when you look at it.

Take an example: for example, you think that getting married and having children to build a family is the most important thing in life; while I think that getting married is not that important, and living freely alone is the most important thing. Then it can be said that we have different values at least on the issue of marriage.
