What is the scientific definition of death?

Death is the inevitable end of human life, but it is the most difficult fact to face and accept.

Traditionally, death is defined as cardiac arrest without spontaneous breathing.

1968, the ad hoc committee of Harvard Medical School defined death as irreversible coma or brain death.

Characteristics of brain death:

1. No response to external stimuli at all.

2. No breathing and activity, including no spontaneous breathing after the ventilator stops for 3 minutes.

3. There is no reflection function at all, and the pupil does not reflect and diffuse light.

4. EEG is straight

Repeated tests within 5.24 hours still showed the above characteristics.

6. Remove patients with hypothermia whose body temperature is lower than 32℃ and patients with deep depression of central nervous system caused by drug abuse.
