What is the origin of berets?

Beret, in the 1920s, British tank soldiers began to explore how to replace the rigid khaki military cap. Because in armored vehicles, which were still new things at that time, it was very inconvenient for tank crew to wear this kind of military cap. This military cap should be worn backwards so as not to affect the gunner's sight, and it must be tied to the chin with a belt to be fixed on the head. However, after using light wool serge cloth, the fingers on the tank will soon be covered with oil when the tank crew takes or adjusts the military cap.

1924, the British tank soldiers finally found a black wool beret, which was one of the two berets worn by French tank soldiers during World War I. The brim of the hat was tied with black leather, and the mouth of the hat could be adjusted with a belt during the intermission, so it could be fixed at the back of the head with a knot. When British tank soldiers put their traditional "fearless" badge on the brim above their left eye, it became a fashionable and practical military hat, which soon became famous for its unique personality and gradually became the symbol of armored forces all over the world at that time.

By World War II, berets had quickly become popular in the army. At that time, all kinds of British troops wore berets of different colors, including the yellow-brown berets adopted by the British Special Air Service Corps and the chestnut berets worn by the British First Airborne Corps, which were affectionately called "cherry berries". It is said that this color was chosen by the novelist Daphne du morille, who was the wife of Major General Frederic Browning, one of the most famous British heroes in World War II.
