Chiku, a stringed instrument

The Chiku is an ancient Chinese stringed instrument. The story of Gao Jianli playing the chiku and Jing Ke singing a song with him during the Warring States period is recorded in the "Strategies of the Warring States" (战国策-燕策), and it can be assumed that the chiku's origin should be earlier than that. During the Wei, Jin, and North-South Dynasties, the chiku was used as an accompaniment for the song of harmony. In the Tang Dynasty, it was used for elegant music, and then lost. Regarding the form of Chiku, there are different records in the literature. The Book of Han - Gao Di Ji, Ying Shao note: "The shape is like a zither but big, with strings on the head, struck by bamboo, so the name is Chiku." Yan Shigu said, "The shape of the building is similar to that of a serpent, but the neck is thin." In Han Xu Shen's Shuowen Jiezi (Explaining Words and Characters), it was recorded that the zhu had 5 strings, in Sui Shu - Music Zhi (The Book of Music) it was recorded that the zhu had 12 strings, and in Song Chen's Le Shu (The Book of Music) it was recorded that, "The zhu is roughly similar to the zheng. Its neck is thin and its shoulder is round. It is drummed with bamboo, like a zither. However, it is also similar to the ode qin, with thirteen strings." Changsha ma wangdui 3 han tomb unearthed a building of Ming ware model, about 33 cm long, shaped like a four-pronged long stick, head and tail of each of the five small bamboo nails arranged in a zigzag pattern, presumably Zhang strings 5. 1 han tomb coffins on the head of the file there is an image of the building, for the left hand holding the building, the right hand holding a thin bamboo hit.
