You can see some ancient creatures in the rocks. What are these fossils called?
The remains of ancient animals or plants preserved in crustal rocks or evidence indicating the existence of remains are called fossils. Fossils from Archean (3.4 billion years ago) to Holocene (65.438 million years ago) were discovered.
In the long geological age, countless creatures lived on the earth, and many of their dead bodies or traces left by life were buried by the sediment at that time.
In the following years, the organic matter in these biological remains was completely decomposed, and the hard parts, such as shells, bones, branches and leaves, together with the surrounding sediments, were petrified into stones, but their original forms and structures (even some subtle internal structures) still existed; Similarly, the traces left by those creatures when they are alive can be preserved in this way.
We call these fossils biological remains and remains fossils. From the fossils, we can see the appearance of ancient animals and plants, from which we can infer the living conditions and living environment of ancient animals and plants, infer the formation age and historical changes of the strata where fossils are buried, and see the biological changes from ancient times to the present.

According to the preservation characteristics, fossils in strata can be divided into four categories: solid fossils, die-casting fossils, trace fossils and chemical fossils.
1. Solid fossils are fossils formed by the preservation of all or part of paleontological remains (especially hardware parts).
2、? Trace fossils refer to the traces and remains of paleontological activities preserved in rock formations.
3. Chemical fossils mean that under certain conditions, the remains of paleontology have not been preserved, but organic substances such as amino acids and fatty acids formed after the decomposition of organic components that make up organisms still remain in rock formations.
4. Die-casting fossils are impressions and recasts left by paleontological remains in rock strata or surrounding rocks. According to the relationship with surrounding rocks, it can be divided into five types: impression fossils, impression fossils, mold core fossils, mold fossils and composite mold fossils.
