What is the main purpose of neonatal blood screening?
Routine blood screening after birth is mainly to prevent and treat congenital genetic diseases, such as whether the newborn has congenital endocrine abnormalities, metabolic diseases, blood diseases and so on. After the examination, it can be treated scientifically as soon as possible, and the hospital will also inform the mother to take the baby to the hospital for re-examination and diagnosis.
Blood sampling screening for newborns is mainly conducted in heel blood. In most areas, newborns will receive a series of tests such as congenital hypothyroidism, phenylketonuria and congenital adrenal hyperplasia for free to see if they have such diseases. If a disease can be found earlier, then treatment according to the development of the newborn will not affect its later development.
There are some differences in blood screening in different hospitals, but the basic items are similar. If the conditions are better, some diseases such as amino acid, organic acid and fatty acid metabolism disorder may be checked. It is normal for newborns to draw blood within 72 hours after milking and then send dry filter paper for examination. Don't worry if you find yourself sick, just cooperate with the treatment as soon as possible.
