What does circumcision mean
Circumcision is divided into two types: male circumcision and female circumcision. Male circumcision is the removal of all or part of the foreskin of the penis, and is recorded in the book of Genesis in the Bible.
Circumcision is practiced by a wide range of peoples around the world, and its long history can be seen in the fact that early circumcision was commonly practiced with stone knives rather than metal knives. As a tradition, it is practiced at or before puberty, or in some Arab peoples, close to marriage. Female circumcision is prevalent in Africa and elsewhere and is an important practice that has been passed down through the centuries.
Expanded;
Herodotus in his Histories records that the Egyptians were the only people circumcised at that time (at least 2,500 years ago), and that peoples such as the Jews followed the example of the Egyptians, who circumcised for the purpose of cleansing, and not for the origins of the Jewish God Yahweh, as recorded in the Bible.
Circumcision among the Jews is actually a sign of fulfillment of the covenant with God, of establishing Jewish identity, and of entering into the licensed sphere of marriage.
