Industrial Districts Industrial Districts
The planetary view has changed things up a bit, now supporting the display of up to six region types. Most planets will offer five zone types. This additional zoning may be of particular interest to modders.
The new orange-colored zones immediately adjacent to urban areas are industrial zones. Industrial districts are considered urban areas (and thus not subject to planetary features), but we decided to have these districts provide jobs for an artificer and a metallurgist for the regular empire, rather than splitting their output from the initial experiment. The Artisan converts _minerals into consumer goods.
Metallurgist converts _minerals_ into alloys.
Position base production: 3 alloys, 6 consumer goods.
Job Base Maintenance: _12 Minerals.
The Civilian Factory and Alloy Foundry will still exist, but are now unique on the planet, with the first floor building adding 2 jobs like the old version. However, the upgraded version will now add 1 or 2 jobs of the appropriate type for each industrial zone on the planet.
Ideal City will retain its specialized zones, but can be enhanced with foundries or civilian factories. The number of jobs in each zone on Ideal City has been adjusted as part of the overall economic balance indicator. Since industrial zones are considered a form of urban zoning, a planet with a mix of urban and industrial zoning could be turned into a metropolitan planet by resolution of the Ideal City Program.
As regions are now more critical to the development of civilization, the average size of home planets has been increased by 2 squares, and "mastery of nature" is now more desirable.
