English composition on Peking Opera
Now let me say something about Beijing Opera. Peking Opera is very popular in China. It has a history of more than 200 years. During the Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty, Qianlong was interested in local operas. 1790, in order to celebrate his eightieth birthday, he called local troupes to Beijing to perform for him. After the celebration, four famous troupes in Anhui Province stayed in Beijing. 1828, a Hubei troupe came to Beijing and often performed with Anhui troupe. These two singing methods are mixed together, and a new singing method, namely Beijing Opera, is gradually formed. Now it's a performance. I hope you will like it.
