What are the historical allusions to trust?

1. YAN SHU (晏殊) was an honest and trustworthy person

Yan Shu (晏殊), a famous writer and statesman during the Northern Song Dynasty, was recommended by a local official at the age of 14 as a "child prodigy" to the court. He could have gotten the post without taking the imperial examination, but he didn't, and took it instead.

By coincidence, the questions on that exam were ones he had done before, and he had received guidance from several famous teachers. In this way, he stood out from more than a thousand candidates without any effort, and was appreciated by the emperor. But Yanshu did not feel complacent, on the contrary

When he accepted the emperor's retest, he told the emperor the truth about the situation and asked for another topic to test him in the classroom. The emperor conferred with his ministers and came up with a more difficult topic for Yanshu to write an essay in class. As a result, his essay was again praised by the emperor.

After becoming an official, Yanshu always returned home to study behind closed doors. When the emperor realized this, he was so pleased that he named him as an official under the crown prince. When Yan Shu went to thank the emperor for his kindness, the emperor again praised him for being able to study hard behind closed doors.

Yan Shu, however, said, "It's not that I don't want to go to banquets and fun, but it's only because my family is poor and has no money that I don't go to them. I am ashamed of Your Majesty's praise." The emperor also praised him for his true talent and his simplicity and honesty, a rare talent, and after a few years he promoted him and made him the prime minister.

The story of Yanshu's appreciation and reuse by the emperor shows how important it is for a person to be honest, to be consistent and not to make false statements in order to gain the trust of others!

2. Song Lian's story

Song Lian liked to read when he was young, but his family was very poor. He had no money to buy books, so he borrowed them from others. Every time he borrowed a book, he told them the time limit and returned the book on time, never violating the contract, so people were happy to lend them to him.

Once he borrowed a book, the more he read, the more he loved it, and decided to copy it. But the deadline for returning the book was approaching. He had to copy the book overnight. It was the middle of winter, and the water was dripping. His mother said, "My son, it's midnight, it's so cold, let's copy it at dawn. People are not waiting for this book to read."

Song Lian said: "Whether people wait for this book to see, to the deadline to return, this is a credit problem, but also respect for others. If you speak and do things without credit and break faith with others, how can you get the respect of others."

On another occasion, Song Lian had to go far away to a famous scholar to ask for advice, and made an appointment to meet the date, who knew that the day of the departure of goose feather snow. When Song Lian picked up his luggage and prepared to go on the road, his mother was surprised and said, "How can you go out in such weather? Besides, the teacher's place has already been blocked by snow.

Your old cotton jacket can't withstand the cold of the mountains!" Song Lian said, "Mother, today not to leave will be misunderstood the day to worship the teacher, this will be a missed appointment; missed appointments, is disrespectful to the teacher ah. No matter how strong the wind and snow are, I must go on my way." When Song Lian arrived at the teacher's home, the teacher was moved to praise and said, "Young man, keep your word and learn well, there will be success in the future!"

3, standing wood for faith

Spring and Autumn and the Warring States period, the state of Qin's Shang Yang in the support of the Duke of Qin Xiaogong presided over the change of law. At that time in the frequent wars, panic, in order to establish credibility, to promote reform, Shang Yang ordered in the capital outside the south gate of a three-foot-long wood, and made a public promise, who can move this wood to the north gate, a reward of ten taels of gold.

The onlookers did not believe that such an easy task would result in such a high reward, and as a result, no one was willing to give it a try. So Shang Yang raised the reward to 50 gold. Finally, someone stood up and carried the wood to the north gate.

Shang Yang immediately rewarded him with 50 gold. Shang Yang's action built up his credibility in the hearts of the people, and his next change of law was quickly popularized in the state of Qin. The new law enabled Qin to grow strong and eventually unify China.

4. Beacon fire:

King Yu of Zhou had a favorite concubine named Baosi, and in order to win her smile, the king ordered more than 20 beacon towers near the capital city to light up beacons - beacons are signals for the alarm at border crossings, and can only be lit when foreign invaders need to call the lords to come to the rescue.

When the lords saw the beacons, they hurriedly arrived with their soldiers and generals, realized that it was the king's trick to make his wife laugh, and then left angrily. When Baosi saw how the lords were at their wits' end, she finally smiled happily.

Five years later, when Youyi and Taijun attacked Zhou, King Yu's beacons were lit again, but his vassals didn't show up - no one wanted to be fooled a second time. As a result, King You was forced to kill himself and Baosi was captured.

5. A promise is worth a thousand pieces of gold:

At the end of the Qin Dynasty, there was a man named Jibu, who was always a man of his word, and his reputation was so high that many people built up strong friendships with him. At that time, there was even this proverb: "It is better to get a hundred pounds of gold than to get a promise from Ji Bu."

Later, he offended Liu Bang, the Gaozu of Han Dynasty, and was offered a reward for his capture. As a result, his old friend was not only not confused by the heavy gold, but also risked the danger of exterminating his nine clans to protect him, humoring him and saving him from disaster. When a person is honest and trustworthy, he will naturally get a lot of help and gain the respect and friendship of everyone.

On the other hand, if one is greedy for a moment's comfort or a small advantage and breaks faith with one's friends, then on the surface, one is getting "benefits". But in order to do so, he ruins his reputation, which is much more important than material things. Therefore, the loss of trust in friends, is tantamount to losing the watermelon to pick up sesame seeds, the loss is not worth it.
