What are the "old morality" and "new morality" in the New Culture Movement?
New Youth put forward the slogans of advocating the vernacular language and overthrowing the literary language, and advocating new literature and overthrowing the old literature. 1917, Hu Shih published Ruminations on the Improvement of Literature in the magazine New Youth, which put forward the idea of replacing the literary language with the vernacular language. Hu Shi's proposition focused on the reform of literary form. Chen Duxiu followed with his Literary Revolution, which called for a revolution in literature not only in form but also in content. The New Youth switched to the vernacular language and adopted a new style of punctuation from the first issue of its four volumes. Some new-style poems also began to appear in New Youth. Lu Xun was the main general of the cultural revolution, he published short stories "Diary of a Madman" and some sharp miscellaneous essays one after another, brilliantly combining the revolutionary content of anti-feudal old rituals with the form of the vernacular language, and set up a model of new literature.
