The construction of this project is different from other comprehensive museums. It is a special museum, which mainly introduces the culture of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.

The construction of China Jinghang Grand Canal Museum includes the museum, the Grand Canal International Cultural Exchange Center and some related supporting facilities, of which the construction area of the museum is about 57,000 square meters, and the construction area of the Grand Canal International Cultural Exchange Center and supporting projects is about 50,000 square meters. The construction of this project will become the cultural landmark of Hangzhou and the destination of people's cultural tourism.

China Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal Museum Project will be built in two phases. The first phase of the project started at the end of 2020 and is expected to be put into trial operation by the end of 2023. The design of this project was inspired by the Grand Canal waterway. The exhibition hall is suspended in the air 13.5 meters above the ground through the glass facade. In this way, the glass facade of the building and the water waves of the canal complement each other, and the canal is mapped to a height of more than ten meters, which has a floating feeling.
