Introduction to Chinatown in Bangkok
Chinese Name: China City, Bangkok
There are thousands of shops in the whole block, with striking Chinese signs, dealing in goods and local products from China. Food stores, hotels, department stores, grocery stores, shoe stores and handicraft shops abound, but most of them are gold shops. Although the facade is not big, it is richly decorated. It is said that 70% of the gold shops in Bangkok are in Chinatown. Boutique stores sell well-known products in Chinese mainland, such as Moutai in Guizhou, stinky tofu in Wang Zhihe in Beijing, pills in Tong Ren Tang in Beijing, Pien Tze Huang in Zhangzhou and Gastrodia elata in Chongqing. In addition, there are bookstores and newsstands selling China books and newspapers, as well as Chaozhou Theatre and Mandarin Cinema.
Up to now, Chinatown still retains the typical characteristics of China traditional culture and Chinese community customs. There are statues of Fu, Lu and Shou in front of the shop, and there are plaques on the door and beside the door. Couplets often write auspicious words such as loyalty and filial piety, poems and songs, prosperous business and abundant financial resources. All China people who come to Bangkok like to visit here, and foreigners are also attracted by the famous China specialties in Chinatown. The Grand Palace, also known as the Forbidden City, is the most perfect, spectacular, largest and most national palace in the past dynasties. It is still used in coronation ceremonies, court celebrations and other ceremonies. The garden is full of green grass, flowers and trees. The total area is about 260,000 square meters.
The biggest feature of Chinatown is that there are many shop signs, the most conspicuous of which is the gold shop. On Yaohuali Road, which is less than two kilometers long, there are hundreds of gold shops, large and small, with huge signs erected at the door and glittering jewelry and gold products displayed in the counters. 70% of the gold shops in Bangkok are in Chinatown. Different from Beijing, the gold ornaments here are piled up there, revealing a kind of heroism, as if selling cabbage, making customers unconsciously follow suit.
Bangkok Chinatown and Bangkok City were born at the same time, with a history of 200 years. Now it has become a prosperous business district. There is an obscure alley called Lecture Street, which is a propaganda place to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen's overthrow of the Manchu government and mobilize Chinese people to donate money for the motherland. Therefore, it is called Speech Street.
