Where is the Huai Opera?

Huai Opera is popular in Jianghuai area and Shanghai. In the middle of Qing Dynasty, the labor chant and Tian Ge in Huaiyin, Yancheng and Funing in northern Jiangsu evolved into "Tan Ci" sung along the door, and then combined with rural social drama (incense drama) to form Jiangbei drama. After entering the city, it absorbed folk tunes such as Anhui opera "Eternal Tune" and developed, and was influenced by Beijing Opera.

During the period of 1942, the cultural and art troupes at all levels in the anti-Japanese base areas in northern Jiangsu performed more Huai operas and set up a Huai opera research group. The main tunes are Lao Huai tune, Lao La tune, Xia He tune, Le An tune and free tune.
