Study in Italy Italian folk costumes

Italian folk clothing, retaining many ancient traditions, the use of materials such as linen, velvet and silk. Even the poorer peasant women, also wearing silk blouses, underwear, and decorated with lace and embroidery. Even aprons made of linen were decorated with colorful narrow stripes. Women in southern Italy wore headscarves all year round, even when they wore hats. Brimless women's hats are woven of sized white lace, gold thread lace, and decorated with bouquets of flowers and ribbons on the top and brim. The dress was a loose black blouse with a white apron trimmed with red ribbons, and a black or blue velvet jacket with long sleeves over the blouse. Wealthy women wore ornaments made of gold, silver, coral or pearls (mainly earrings, necklaces, bracelets), while peasant women mostly wore enameled metal pieces or glass beads. The pants of the men in northern Italy are black, as are the stockings of the fishermen.

The traditional Italian dress of Italian men on the island of Sicily is dominated by the color white. They wear white shirts with collars that are raised and decorated with embroidery. Tights are also white, sometimes covered with a red undershirt and jacket, also decorated with embroidered patterns and spangles. White leather shoes were also decorated with red pompoms. The colors red and white are in sharp contrast.

Dancing was prevalent in the Neapolitan tarantella, where the girls wore low-necked blue silk blouses, black velvet girdles, and a large silk bow on their chests. The white brocade stockings shimmer, and the soft leather shoes are perfect for showing the dexterity of the dance steps.
