There are many water treatment technologies, such as pre-precipitation, coagulation, clarification, filtration, softening and disinfection. At present, membrane separation technology is often used to purify water. Membrane separation technology is usually divided into four categories: microfiltration, ultrafiltration, sodium filtration and reverse osmosis.

1, microfiltration (MF): the filtration accuracy is generally 0. 1-0.5 micron. Various common PP filter elements, activated carbon filter elements, ceramic filter elements, etc. All belong to the category of microfiltration. They are used for simple coarse filtration and acrobatics such as silt and rust in water, but they cannot remove harmful substances such as bacteria in water. The filter element can't be cleaned at ordinary times. It is a disposable filter material and needs to be replaced frequently.

(1)PP cotton core: generally, it is only used for coarse filtration with low requirements to remove large particles such as sediment and rust in water.

(2) Activated carbon: It can eliminate the abnormal color and odor in water, but it can't remove bacteria in water, and the removal effect of sediment and rust is also very poor.

(3) Ceramic filter element: The minimum filtration accuracy is only 0. 1 micron, and the water flow is small, so it is not easy to clean.

2. Ultrafiltration (UF): The filtration accuracy is 0.00 1-0. 1 micron, which belongs to one of the high and new technologies of 2 1 century. Ultrafiltration is a membrane separation technology using pressure difference, which can filter out harmful substances such as rust, sediment, suspended matter, colloid, bacteria, macromolecular organic matter and retain some mineral elements beneficial to human body. It is the core component in the production of mineral water and mountain spring water. The recovery rate of water in the ultrafiltration process is as high as 95%, which can realize flushing and backwashing conveniently, is not easy to block, and has a relatively long service life.

Ultrafiltration does not need electricity and pressure, and can be filtered only by tap water pressure, with large flow rate and low use cost, which is more suitable for comprehensive purification of domestic drinking water. Therefore, the purification of drinking water in the future will be mainly based on ultrafiltration technology, combined with other filtering materials, in order to achieve a wider treatment range and eliminate pollutants in water more comprehensively.

3. Sodium filtration (NF): the filtration accuracy is between ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis, and the desalination rate is lower than that of reverse osmosis. It is also a membrane separation technology that requires electricity and pressure, and the water recovery rate is low. In other words, more than 50% tap water will be wasted in the process of making water with sodium membrane. Generally used for industrial pure water manufacturing.

4. Reverse osmosis (RO): the filtration accuracy is about 0.000 1 micron. It is an ultra-high precision membrane separation technology developed by the United States in the early 1960 s, which can filter out almost all impurities in water and only allow water molecules to pass through. In other words, more than 50% tap water will be wasted in the process of reverse osmosis membrane water production. Most of them are used to make pure water, industrial ultrapure water and pharmaceutical ultrapure water. Reverse osmosis technology needs pressurization, power supply, small flow rate and low water utilization rate, which is not suitable for the purification of a large number of domestic drinking water.
