Is traditional culture outdated?
In recent years, traditional culture has received increasing attention. At the same time, some people wonder whether traditional culture is obsolete when it was formed thousands of years ago. To explore this question, we must first answer what culture is.
Culture? s definition is not easy. For words that are difficult to define precisely, people use them as they see fit, which can be described as ? a concept, expressed separately? and we are no exception. The end of civilization and humanity? can be understood as: using civilization to make decisions and choices is a feature different from animals; ? People-oriented, to the world? can be understood as: A deep understanding and grasp of the characteristics of human beings who make decisions and choices by civilization can educate the world, i.e., culture. For example, eating when hungry is a human and animal instinct, not a culture. Paying attention to what you eat gives food an emotional meaning, such as birthday noodles and birthday cake. This is something animals cannot understand but is unique to humans, i.e. culture. Put it to good use and you can educate the world, that's what culture does.
Culture, therefore, has a visible and tangible aspect, that is, it has the vehicle of artifacts and skills; at the same time, there are intangible and intangible aspects, such as habits, rules, and other systems that are reflected in the wisdom behind the artifacts and skills, as well as the mind and spirit. The intangible aspect is the essence of what culture is about.
If we talk about objects, skills, and other vectors, both traditional and modern, Eastern and Western cultures become obsolete; however, if we talk about it in terms of more fundamental systems, wisdom, and other connotations, it is not necessarily obsolete.
For example, computers are a product of either modern or Western culture; the 586 computer that took the world by storm in the mid-1990s became completely obsolete only 20 years ago, and many young people have probably never heard of it. However, International Business Machines and Intel, which produced the 586 computer, still exist, and their R&D production and distribution systems are still in place and not obsolete. One day, IBM and Intel will cease to exist, and their R&D, production and sales systems will no longer be relevant. However, the wisdom generated by computer technology will always play a role in the development of human society. Traditional cultures have existed for thousands of years, much longer than electronic computers. Obsolescence at the level of visible and tangible artifacts and skills is normal.
In short, to discuss whether traditional culture will become obsolete, we should first distinguish which level of traditional culture is the object of discussion. If it refers to the object level, it will become obsolete sooner or later, but it is not enough to talk about development; if it refers to the institutional level, it will not be completely obsolete, and it is still available today; if it refers to the intellectual level, it will not be obsolete at all, and it is still available today.
