Architectural style of Guangfu folk houses
Most of the villages in Guangfu buildings are comb-shaped layout or plane grid layout, which means that the whole village is in the form of an alley with houses on both sides and a courtyard. Compared with the quadrangles in the north, the houses in Guangfu buildings are all three-in-one quadrangles. The ancestral temple is the spiritual core of the whole village. At the same time, there is a pond in front of the village, which is the common feature of all villages. It is also a common practice to plant banyan trees by the pond. The open space under the banyan tree is probably an important place to spread folk culture after the ancestral hall.
Meeting the requirements of ventilation and shading is the same feature of Lingnan architecture, and so is Guangfu rural architecture. Generally speaking, the general building materials are granite (called Ma Shi in Guangzhou) and red sandstone (stone used in Nanyue King's Tomb Museum), which are red and cyan respectively, that is, people often say blue bricks and red bricks.
