History
James Watt (1736-1819) was born on January 19, 1736 in Greenock, Scotland. He grew up weak and sickly, and was initiated by his parents. His father was an artisan with a variety of crafts, and under his influence Watt had an interest and talent for experimentation from an early age. Legend has it that when he was a boy, he once plugged the spout of a pot with a cloth and saw the power of the steam wash the lid off.
This phenomenon stimulated his spirit of exploration. Later entered the Greenock Grammar School to study, due to poor health, withdrew from school to study at home, and often with his father to the factory to learn to make mechanical models, instrumentation technology, chemical and electrical experiments. Relying on the spirit of learning with an open mind and hard work, at the age of 15, finished the "Principles of Physics" and acquired a wealth of carpentry, metal smelting and processing and other process technology.
