Background for the emergence of the overall concept of national security:

Currently, the connotation and extension of China's national security are richer than at any other time in history, the spatial and temporal domains are wider than at any other time in history, and the internal and external factors are more complex than at any other time in history. At the critical stage of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, as a large developing country, we are faced with the challenges of many overlapping contradictions and increasing risks and hidden dangers.

Faced with multiple and complex security threats, external resistance and challenges are gradually increasing, existential security issues and security and development issues, traditional security threats and non-traditional security threats are intertwined, and the task of safeguarding national unity, maintaining territorial integrity, and safeguarding the interests of development is arduous and burdensome.
