In which period of China's history did the practice of "floating goblets" appear?
The custom of "floating goblets" emerged during the Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern Dynasties, taking the drinking game a step forward.
Goblets, from the Lanting event in the metropolis of Huiji in the Jin Dynasty, is an elegant activity that was passed down in ancient China. Located in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, the Lanting was the place where nobles and high-ranking officials of the Jin Dynasty held their festivals. In the third month of the lunar calendar, after people held the purification ceremony of semi-annual purification, everyone sat on both sides of the river canal, placing wine cups in the upper stream, which flowed downstream and stopped in front of whoever took the cups and drank the wine.
