Is hydrogen bonding a chemical bond?
Hydrogen bonding is a specific type of chemical bonding, which is recognized in physical chemistry as an interaction force that can occur between or within some molecules. Hydrogen bonds are formed by the interaction between hydrogen atoms and more electronegative atoms such as nitrogen, oxygen and fluorine. Due to the special nature of the hydrogen bond, it is often referred to as an interaction force on its own, not a chemical bond in the traditional sense. Therefore, strictly speaking, hydrogen bonds are not chemical bonds. However, in some cases, people do categorize hydrogen bonding as a chemical bond.
