How is a fracture of the neck of the femur treated?

(1) Non-operative treatment. Fractures without obvious displacement, stable fractures such as abduction type or embedded type, those who are too old, in poor general condition, or combined with serious heart, lung, kidney, liver and other functional disorders, choose non-operative therapy.

The use of anti-dislocation shoes, lower limb skin traction, bedridden for 6 to 8 weeks, while the quadriceps isometric contraction training and ankle, toe flexion and extension activities, to avoid venous reflux obstruction or venous thrombosis. During the period of bed rest, complications such as lung infection, urinary tract infection and decubitus ulcer should be avoided. Generally speaking, after 8 weeks, the patient will gradually sit up in bed, but cannot sit cross-legged; after 3 months, the patient will go down to the ground with the help of crutches without weight bearing; after 6 months, the patient will gradually abandon the crutches and walk.

(2) Surgery. Indications for surgery: internal fracture and displaced fracture; subtalar fracture in the elderly over 65 years old; femoral neck fracture in adolescents should be anatomically repositioned as much as possible; old fracture of the femoral neck that does not heal; deformity that affects the function of the healing; ischemic necrosis of the femoral head or osteoarthritis of the hip joint.

(3) Surgical methods. Closed reduction and internal fixation; incision and reduction and internal fixation; artificial joint replacement.
