What kind of musical instrument is a dong-dong?
The dong drum is a folk instrument.
The donggu is a narrative folk tune accompanied by a bamboo drum and bamboo pieces. It uses a one-foot-two-inch-long bamboo tube covered with frog skin or lard and fixed with a round bamboo hoop as the drum body. The performer holds the drum under his armpit and strikes the drum with his right hand, while holding in his left hand a piece of bamboo about three inches long and one and two-tenths inches wide as accompaniment. The drum is led by a guide boy who wanders along the way selling songs. It plays an important role in folk traditions, narrating stories and conveying emotions through music and singing.
