Development history of automobile lighting system

The development history of automobile lighting generally goes through the following four stages: the evolution of automobile lights occurs with the change of automobile light source.

The first generation of automobile lighting system directly used fuel (candle, kerosene or acetylene) to emit light. However, there are obvious shortcomings such as low luminous efficiency, strong light, unstable performance and complicated operation. Can meet the requirements of early headlights.

The second generation automobile lighting system is incandescent lamp. Edison invented the incandescent lamp. Revolutionary changes have taken place in automobile lamps. 19 13 years, the incandescent lamp technology was first applied to Cadillac headlights in the United States. Since then, automobile lighting has entered the electrical age. Then, new technologies such as automobile mirror, starter, generator and battery appeared one after another, and the automobile really entered the incandescent lamp era in 1925. In 1950s, halogen tungsten lamp reappeared and soon became the main light bulb of automobile strong light source. It will replace incandescent lamps and tungsten halogen lamps and become a new light source in car headlights.

The third generation automobile lighting system is a gas discharge lamp (HID), which has the advantages of high luminous efficiency, high brightness and high reliability.

The fourth generation automotive lighting system is a semiconductor light emitting diode (LED semiconductor PN junction diode). When a forward bias voltage is applied to both ends of the PN junction, the PN junction system is excited. Carriers transition from low energy state to high energy state. When the unstable carriers in the high-energy state return to the low-energy state and recombine, according to the principle of energy conservation, excess energy will be released in the form of photons, which is the principle of LED electroluminescence. Car lights come from the most primitive candle lights.

In recent years, new HID lamps and LED lamps have appeared. Since the first Audi R8 LED headlamp was exposed, it has developed into an incandescent lamp. International high-end automobile manufacturers, such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Toyota and Ford, have introduced new models with colorful LED lights to attract customers, especially Japanese cars. LED has been widely used. Known as the lamp that never needs to change the light bulb, it is one of the most dazzling products of international automobile electronization.
