What is the core area of a nature reserve?

The Regulations on Nature Reserves of the People's Republic of China stipulate that nature reserves are divided into core areas, buffer areas and experimental areas. The well-preserved natural ecosystems and the concentrated distribution of rare and endangered plants and animals in the nature reserves are delineated and called the core area. The area is prohibited for any unit or individual to enter, except in accordance with the provisions of Article 17 of the Regulations upon approval, and is not allowed to enter to engage in scientific research activities.
