L'Occitane's brand culture
The real name
The word L'OCCITANE originates from an ancient province called Occitania, which covers the whole of the South of France and is rich in culture and fragrant plants. The name L'OCCITANE also represents all the traditions of the region, such as the troubadours of the Middle Ages, the multiculturalism and the friendship between people.
True to its ideals
I started L'OCCITANE at a time when the industry of making large-scale Marseille soaps was in decline. Making soap with vegetable oils is a technique unique to Marseille and an important memory of my childhood, so I began to think of ways to continue the tradition. Luckily, I met a retired soap maker who gave me all his machines and tools for free! With his generous donation, L'OCCITANE started the business of producing soaps with essential oils.
A True Discovery
There is a unique legend behind every L'OCCITANE product line. Lavender, Olive, Verbena and Honey Festival celebrate the traditions of Provence, Chamomile recounts the story of Corsica, and Shea Butter is a legendary gem of Africa. These collections tell the story of the people who live in the region, how they preserve their traditions and perpetuate ancient customs. I believe there are many more traditions in the world that are waiting to be discovered, revived, shared and preserved.
