What file attributes does Serv-u have?
Write : Allows the user to write (i.e. upload) files. This permission does not allow the user to modify an existing file; append permission is required.
Append: Allows the user to append data to an existing file. This permission is typically used to enable a user to continue a partially uploaded file.
Rename: Allows the user to rename an existing file. Previous versions of Serv-U required delete and write permissions to rename files. Starting with version 7.0, renaming is now an explicit permission.
Delete: Allows users to delete files.
Execute: Allows the user to execute files remotely. Execute access is used to remotely launch a program and is usually applied to a specific file. This is a very powerful privilege and should be granted with extreme caution. Users with write and execute access can actually install any program they choose on your system.
Directory permission list: Allows the user to list the files contained in a directory.
Create: Allows the user to create new subdirectories within the directory.
Rename: Allows the user to rename an existing subdirectory in a directory. Previous versions of Serv-U required delete and write permissions to rename a directory. Starting with version 7.0, renaming becomes an explicit permission.
Delete: Allows the user to delete an existing subdirectory in a directory. Note: If the directory contains files, the user also needs the Delete Files permission to delete the directory.
Subdirectory Inheritance: Allows all subdirectories to inherit the same permissions as their parent directory. Inherited permissions apply in most cases, but if access must be restricted to a subfolder, such as when Mandatory Access Control is in place, then the inheritance is removed and permissions are granted on a folder-by-folder basis.
Maximum size of directory content for quota permissions : Setting the maximum size dynamically limits the size of the directory content to the specified value. Any attempted file transfer that causes the directory content to exceed this limit value is rejected. It serves as an alternative to the traditional quota feature, which relies on tracking all file transfers (uploads and deletions) to calculate the directory size and is unable to take changes to the directory contents into account outside of user file server activity.
