Manufacturing method and steps:
1, paper-cut sample (Figure 2)
The appearance of the cloth tiger is handed down from the older generation, and artists have all kinds of tiger pillows. For skilled artists, they will keep these images in mind and can cut samples at will when making.
The appearance of a tiger pillow is generally composed of body, abdomen, eyes, nose and mouth. Specifically, there are two tiger bodies, one tiger abdomen, three tiger eyes, one tiger nose, two tiger eyebrows and one tiger mouth.
Figure 2
2. Mounting cloth (Figure 3, Figure 4) Mounting cloth is to paste the cloth of the required color on the paper-cut pattern. The method is as follows: firstly, the cloth is laid flat on the table, the paper pattern is coated with paste, and the paste side is attached to the cloth, and then compacted to make the surface of the cloth smooth and wrinkle-free. Then cut along the pattern. Unexpectedly, it is necessary to leave an edge about one centimeter wider than the pattern on the edge, and then cut an opening every two to three centimeters in the wide part. Then, paste is coated on the cut cloth teeth and pasted on the pattern. After pasting, you can scrape it back along the edge with scissors to ensure the edge is neat.
Use the above method to complete the following parts:
(1) Take a red cloth and paste two tiger corpses;
(2) Take a piece of white cloth and put it on the tiger's stomach;
(3) Three layers of tiger eyes, with white, red and black cloth (black hollowed out) respectively;
(4) mounting the tiger nose on the white cloth;
(5) The tiger's mouth is inlaid with powder;
(6) Tiger eyebrows are framed with blue cloth.

(8) Put the prepared gecko body in the proper position of the tiger pillow, pose a twisting posture, and fix the head and tail.
(9) Pass the white leg strap through the front abdomen of the gecko, fix the position, sew it firmly with black thread, and embroider the claws with purple thread.
(10) Embroider the flowers and plants around you with green threads. The other four kinds of insects are made in turn according to the gecko making method, and sewn in the proper position of the tiger body. Then, the vortex pattern is embroidered on both sides of the tiger's ass, and the branch pattern with green lines is embroidered on the tiger's tail.

6. Making butterflies: (figure 1 1, figure 12, figure 13)
(1) Make a butterfly. Take a small piece of green cloth, cut it into triangles, cut off two corners, rub the cotton ball into a stick and fold it in half, put it in the middle of the pudding, and sew it from top to bottom with a needle. It's a shape with a round top and a sharp bottom, and then the joints between the eyes and the body are embroidered.
(2) make wings. Wings are divided into two pairs and four pieces. First, take a small piece of cloth 5 cm square, fold it twice to make a triangle, and then sew it on the imaginary edge, tighten the thread and make it into a chicken shape. In the same way, make a big wing and two little wings and dock them on the butterfly.

7. Combination sewing:
(1) Align the heads of the two tigers and sew them together from top to bottom. Ears and foreheads need to be hemmed. The method is: take a piece of black cloth, the length is slightly longer than the length of the ear and forehead, sew it on one side with a flat needle, then wrap it around the other side and sew it with a needle.
(2) Sew the tiger's eyes in a proper position with a needle. When they are sewn to 2/3, take a small ball of cotton and stuff it into the fundus, and then sew all the eyes together, so that the eyes can be more stereoscopic.
(3) Put your nose between your eyes and fix it. Put your eyebrows above your eyes and sew them along the edge with a needle. Sew the mouth at an appropriate position under the nose by inserting a needle.
(4) Connect the disc length to the surface.
(5) Sewing the ear. After sewing the ridge, the unglazed side of the ear will turn to the front side, so fold a piece of cloth the same size as the ear into the raw edge seam, and finally insert cotton.
(6) sew the butterfly between the ears on the top of your head.
(7) Claw belly: align the white belly sample with the lower edge of the tiger and sew it from the bottom of the tiger's mouth. When sewing to the claw, clamp the claw by the way and leave an opening about 7 cm long at the tail for stuffing.
(8) Fill the tiger pillow with fillers, generally buckwheat husk, chaff, sawdust, etc. Fill the selected filler from the reserved opening and tamp it with a small stick. Finally, sew up the opening and tidy up the folds on the tiger pillow to make it flat and full. (Figure 14)

Attachment: Dushan embroidery
Dushan embroidery began in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and its crafts are divided into embroidery, velvet embroidery, tapestry embroidery and cross ponytail embroidery. Embroidery has harmonious colors and generous patterns, including figures, flowers, birds and animals. It reflects the life interest and beautiful yearning of Buyi people, and is mostly used in clothes and hats, costumes, children's navel, dragon and phoenix back fans (straps) and other objects. Embroidery "Xiangyun Shenhu" is one of the most representative. Its manufacturing method is to paste the cloth into a "cloth shell" with sticky rice paste, then make a tiger model with the cloth shell, and then cut the cloth of different colors into clouds, and tie them up as the tiger body, which is called "clouds cover clouds", sprinkle gold at the end, and fix them with the stitch method. Its expression is exaggerated and powerful, which makes people love it. The tiger is a thing to ward off evil spirits and attract wealth, and the cloud is a symbol of good luck and peace. Dressing children with "Xiangyun Shenhu" not only means being brave as a tiger, but also expresses expectations and blessings for children, so it is very popular. Recently, Dushan's "Xiangyun Shenhu" was listed in UNESCO's collection list, and was awarded "outstanding handicraft" and a badge, which is the only work in Chinese embroidery industry that won this honor. Now this craft is close to being lost ~ it's hard to find, it's the craft of the older generation, so find another way!
The Historical Track of "Cloth Tiger"
According to historical records, Dushan embroidery technology began in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, flourished in the Republic of China and developed in the 1950s. Dushan embroidery technology is divided into embroidery, velvet embroidery, sticking embroidery, embroidery, cross stitch, ponytail embroidery and so on. It is a traditional handicraft with exquisite skills, harmonious colors and generous patterns. There are figures, flowers, birds and animals embroidered on it, which embodies the life interest and beautiful yearning of the people who wear clothes. Most of them are used in Buyi clothes, children's bellybuttons, children's clothes and hats, dragon and phoenix back fans (straps) and so on.
Dushan embroidery, which originated from the homes of ordinary people, developed from self-production and self-use of one household before liberation to cooperative management in the mid-1950s after liberation. 1955, Dushan established a knitting club (the predecessor of Dushan National Embroidery Crafts Factory), which developed to a certain scale after the reform and opening up, and flourished in the late 1980s and early 1990s, enjoying a good reputation throughout the country and being exported to Southeast Asian countries.
Looking up Dushan's "Cloth Tiger" and various embroidery files, all kinds of honors are coming:
198 1 won the first place in the embroidery children's wear appraisal in the province.
1983 "dragon and phoenix back fan (strap) was rated as a national minority quality product.
1984 "satin-bonded pig-cat children's shoes" won the national tourism product handicraft award.
1990 Dushan National Embroidery won the Bronze Award at the First National Light Industry Expo, and in the same year, Embroidered Tiger Mural won the Tourism Crafts Award of the Ministry of Light Industry.
In 2007, he participated in the "Colorful Guizhou Craftsman Competition" and won the first and second prizes respectively. He is now in the Guizhou Provincial Museum.
With the improvement of social material and cultural life and the development of tourism, Dushan embroidery technology has now changed from clothing production to family decoration and tourist handicrafts. Embroidery "Xiangyun Shenhu" is one of the most representative.
Embroidery evolved from Buyi embroidery, and "Xiangyun Shenhu" or "Cloth Tiger" is the most typical embroidery. The making method of "Xiangyun Shenhu" is to paste the cloth into a cloth shell with sticky rice paste, then make the cloth shell into a tiger model, then cut the cloth of different colors into clouds, and wrap them around the tiger, which is called "clouds cover clouds", and then sprinkle gold on the end point and fix them with notch needle method. Its expression is exaggerated and powerful, which makes people love it. The tiger is a thing to ward off evil spirits and attract wealth, and the cloud is a symbol of good luck and peace. Dressing children with "Xiangyun Tiger" not only means being brave and strong like a tiger, but also expresses expectations and blessings for children. Therefore, "Xiangyun Shenhu" not only has the characteristics of handicraft art, but also contains profound cultural connotation.
The present situation of "cloth tiger"
Perhaps foreign experts from UNESCO never dreamed that the blue-eyed "Xiangyun Tiger" was born in an obscure alley in a small city in western China. In the middle of a street called Yingshang Road in dushan county, under a small cement bungalow, there is a facade less than 10 square meter. This is the "Liyan Handicraft Factory" visited by the reporter. The "Xiangyun God Pot" was created by 54-year-old Buyi woman Deng Lidan.
This handicraft factory was established in 1990. Deng Lidan is the director, not only producing Buyi embroidery, but also opening sales outlets. On the crude glass container, all kinds of cloth tigers, wall hangings, cushions, Chinese corsets and straps are dazzling. These products are sold to neighbors, relatives and friends. Teresa Teng has been an artist for more than 30 years. It takes two to three days for a person to make a "Xiangyun Shenhu", but it takes nearly a month to make a set of (about 10) "Xiangyun Shenhu". A "Xiangyun Shenhu" can be sold for 50-80 yuan (different sizes). Excluding the materials, a "Xiangyun Shenhu" will gain profits around 20 yuan. It is a factory, but in fact she is the only one in management, design and production. Therefore, production and sales belong to a very "primary" stage.
It is understood that in Dushan, there are more than 300 people engaged in the production of embroidery crafts such as "Cloth Tiger" like Teresa Teng, and there are more than 30 key artists, most of whom are single-handedly in a state of extensive production in small workshops. The two camps of Dushan "Cloth Tiger" production and sales are private self-employed individuals and Dushan National Embroidery Crafts Factory. According to the current technical level, if these skilled craftsmen are recruited for intensive production, more than 3,000 different "cloth tigers" can be made every month.
Dushan National Embroidery Crafts Factory is a centralized enterprise founded in 1950s, mainly engaged in national embroidery processing. Once a leading enterprise in dushan county, its business was booming. With the deepening of the market economy, the management mode of the factory can no longer meet the needs of market competition. Especially in recent years, the resurgence of folk individual embroidery tourism handicrafts has hit the market one after another, and the embroidery production and operation of the factory have plummeted, and the wages of workers have also decreased accordingly. Some skilled workers return home to start businesses and process handicrafts such as "Cloth Tiger" in the form of family workshops.
When interviewed by the reporter in Xiaoshizi Dushan National Embroidery Crafts Factory, the director Huang Yuanqun introduced that there are more than 200 workers in the factory at present, but the reporter saw a production workshop of more than 20 square meters, and only a few workers were working, but did not see the production of "cloth tigers". Director Huang said that at present, enterprises are in an unplanned and unorganized production form, and there is no means of marketing and external contact. With the order, temporary recruiters will rush to process it or transfer it to individual processors. Without orders, there is no production.
Dushan "Cloth Tiger" is a pure handicraft with only ornamental value, weak practical function, slow production speed, harsh technological requirements and high price, which determines that the main consumers can only be a few people and a small range. If we can't open the vast foreign market, Cloth Tiger can only be in an embarrassing situation of "having a brand, no scale and no benefit".
The reporter learned in the interview that since last year, with the development of tourism in surrounding counties and cities, Dushan has developed the tourism industry around "eating, living, traveling and buying", and the market of ethnic tourism handicrafts such as "cloth tiger" has gradually recovered, and customers have begun to order at home. Some individual "cloth tiger" productions have occupied a certain market; At the same time, in recent years, through organizing Dushan tourism handicrafts to participate in trade fairs, especially after the "two competitions and one meeting" from 2006 to now, Dushan "Cloth Tiger" has shown its value and become a bright spot of Guizhou tourism products. The provincial arts and crafts company and some tourism companies in Guiyang came to the embroidery factory to place orders, and the market prospect suddenly emerged. With the works of outstanding craft creators such as Teresa Teng, Mo Jianghong, Xiong and Liang Lizhen winning prizes frequently in provinces, prefectures and counties, especially the recent inclusion of "Xiangyun Shenhu" in UNESCO's treasure list, it has once again inspired many handicraft producers in Dushan, and also showed hope for the future.
Problems faced by "Cloth Tiger"
"Cloth Tiger" in Dushan is a traditional handicraft art of Buyi nationality, which has certain particularity. It is not only a material product, but also an artistic product, which has the duality of culture and economy. At the same time of economic development and utilization, do a good job in protection, inheritance and development.
At present, Dushan's "cloth tiger" has encountered difficulties in coming out of the mountain on a large scale:
First, there is insufficient understanding of the cultural value and development and utilization of the "cloth tiger", and the awareness of propaganda, protection and development is not strong;
Second, there is a lack of objective coordinated management and support, especially economic support. The production of folk artists and small factories has been stagnant for a long time, and it is impossible to integrate resources to expand the market. The old artists of Dushan National Embroidery Crafts Factory said that their factory has equipment, technology and brands, but there is no capital and no market. Handicrafts such as "Cloth Tiger" have high technical requirements and slow production speed. If they all invest in the market economy without corresponding protection share funds, they will be in a marginal and weak position.
The third is the lack of external market contact, the ability to develop and cultivate the market is weak, and it is difficult to do large-scale promotion only by sporadic orders and recommendations from relatives and friends. In 2005, a tourism product developer in Guiyang regarded Dushan as a "cloth tiger" and set up a factory in Dushan, recruiting 100 artists to make it. But because there was no market, he finally had to use products to pay workers' wages and close the factory.
Fourth, the design and production of cloth tigers are not followed up, because the production of cloth tigers is purely manual, with low labor productivity, poor working conditions and low treatment of employees, forming a strange circle of "young people are unwilling to learn and can't recruit people". For example, Teresa Teng wants to train two daughters to engage in hand embroidery and name the factory after them, hoping that they will inherit their mother's career. As a result, the two daughters "escaped", and she was worried that decades of craftsmanship would die and could not be passed down. It is understood that at present, the people engaged in the production of handicrafts such as "Cloth Tiger" in Dushan are all over 40 years old, with experience and lack of innovation, and lack of modern management knowledge and the ability to impact the market.
How did the cloth tiger come out of the mountain?
How to make Dushan "Cloth Tiger" walk out of the predicament, stand out from the crowd with strength, comprehensively solve the problem of "brand, no scale and little benefit", and turn the powerful "Xiangyun Shenhu" into a rolling financial source? .
Relevant persons believe that Dushan is a strong cultural county in China, with a superior foundation and good experience in cultural construction and development. To protect and develop Dushan's "Cloth Tiger" and build Dushan's tourism products with the name card of UNESCO's "Excellent Handicraft", we should stand on the heights of protection and development, inheritance and innovation, culture and economy, and follow the State Council's proposal of using big ideas, big planning, cultivating big industries and promoting big development.
Dushan is the southern gate of Guizhou and an important tourist destination in southern Guizhou. Its location advantage is obvious, and the construction of major tourist cultural channels has basically taken shape. Anti-Japanese Cultural Park, Forest Park, Kuiwen Pavilion and other scenic spots are playing a role, and the corresponding facilities such as tourist commodity shopping centers are gradually improving. In recent years, Dushan has achieved initial results in increasing the development of tourism cultural commodities around "eating, living, traveling, traveling and purchasing", and further efforts should be made on the word "purchasing".
Today, cultural trends are surging, cultural capital is active, and cultural undertakings and industries are rising rapidly. Dushan, which has rich cultural heritage and resources, must pay attention to excavation, integration, promotion, development and utilization. It is necessary to publicize Dushan's internationally renowned brand "Xiangyun Shenhu" to make it a symbol of going to the market, a symbol recognized by the outside world, and a means to enhance Dushan's cultural value and market brand. Strengthen policy and financial support, while doing a good job in protection and inheritance, do a good job in product innovation and upgrading, not only to maintain the exquisite skills of traditional handicrafts, but also to consider making processing enterprises and workshops bigger and stronger, promoting products with high-quality products, promoting high-quality products with products, and realizing the scale and marketization of products. Intensify the reform of production enterprises, strengthen the training of management talents and technical talents, and increase the stamina of product innovation and competition. Strengthen external communication, link external markets, expand marketing channels, achieve a double harvest of cultural and economic benefits, and make Dushan "Cloth Tiger" really strong.
