The China Import and Export Fair (The China Import and Export Fair, referred to as: Canton Fair), founded on April 25, 1957, is held annually in Guangzhou in the spring and autumn, jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and the People's Government of Guangdong Province, and organized by the China Foreign Trade Center. It has the longest history, the highest level, the largest scale, the most complete range of commodities, the largest number of buyers and the widest distribution of countries and regions, and the best effect of the transaction of the comprehensive international trade event, and is known as "China's first exhibition".On April 25, 1957, the first China Export Commodities Fair was opened, and Premier Zhou Enlai proposed to shorten the name to Canton Fair. The first Canton Fair had an exhibition area of 9,600 square meters, divided into five pavilions for industrial products, textiles, food, handicrafts and local specialties, and 13 professional foreign trade companies organized trade missions to exhibit more than 10,000 kinds of commodities, including self-developed Jiefang brand heavy-duty automobiles, ordinary lathes, etc., and a variety of daily-use light industrial products, agricultural, sideline and local specialties as well as traditional handicrafts. 1,200 buyers from 19 countries and regions came to the fair.
